Andreas Fuhrimann Gabrielle Hächler Architekten from Zurich (CH) won 1st prize in this year’s “Houses of the Year — the best single-family houses” competition for the project “Der Stadtbaustein”.
“Pure and provocative, self-confident, unconventional and comfortable” was the verdict of the high-ranking jury of experts on the unusual building in Zurich’s Wipkingen district.
Spiegel online ran the headline “Züricher Trutzburg (mit Baustellencharakter)” (Zurich fortress with construction site character) and is currently asking for opinions. What do you think, dear readers?

… das ist schon ein sehr radikaler Bau. Außen Rohbauzustand, nur die Regentropfkante ist perfekt, und innen allerfeinstes Ambiente. In Sachen Qualität und Anspruch der Details können sich mutmaßlich 99% der deutschen Büros hier eine Scheibe abschneiden.
Man wünscht sich, das dort eine selbstbewusste Bauherrschaft wohnt. Und hoffentlich grüsst noch die Nachbarschaft!
