Set in the green surroundings of Aix-en-Provence, this small B&B combines modern architecture with retro-style décor. The rooms, characterised by exposed concrete and generous panoramic windows, are imbued with a cheerful, cosmopolitan atmosphere thanks to vintage furniture and the owners’ travel souvenirs.
The building itself appears as a clear, almost graphic composition: an elongated, horizontal volume of exposed concrete and glass, precisely integrated into the lush Provençal garden. The strict linearity is accentuated by a widely overhanging roof and the rhythm of vertical partition walls, which structure the façade whilst creating sheltered outdoor areas.
Accessed via an external staircase, the four guest rooms on the upper floor are arranged in a continuous row – almost in the style of a motel. Each room features floor-to-ceiling glazing and access to a private terrace. Although all rooms follow the same floor plan, their design gives them a character all of their own: romantic, feminine, Scandinavian, 1970s-style or bucolic.
The exposed concrete lends the architecture a raw, minimalist look, whilst the generous glass surfaces flood the interiors with light and create a close connection to the surrounding natural environment. This contrast between solidity and openness is balanced by the personal, relaxed décor, creating an atmosphere that is both stylish and pleasantly informal.
This concept continues outdoors: Mediterranean plants, open lawns and shaded areas frame the elongated pool, various terraces and sunbathing areas, as well as a pétanque court. The result is a place to drift away, read, cool off – or simply do nothing. Breakfast is served in the dining and living room, furnished with mid-century pieces, or on the terrace overlooking the pool and garden.
Despite the peaceful location, the lively centre of Aix-en-Provence is just a few minutes away, allowing for an effortless transition between city life and a relaxed retreat.
