Apartment/Ferienhaus norderdiekhuus in Nordfriesland, St. Peter-Ording / DE – Germany, Schleswig Holstein

Apartment//Holiday home norderdiekhuus

The norderdiekhuus is located in a fantastic, secluded natural setting, within walking distance of the beach, right next to the Tümlauer Koog nature reserve, which is part of the Schleswig-Holstein Wadden Sea. From the house, you can watch sheep grazing, observe storks in the meadows and, from autumn to early summer, enjoy the spectacular sight of wild geese resting.

The holiday home was built in 1850 as a typical local thatched cottage – the last building just beyond the town limits of Sankt Peter-Ording – and housed a dyke sheep farm until the 1980s. Around this time, a cattle dealer took over the former cottage and converted it into a functional holiday home. In 2021, it was put up for sale, at which point it was in dire need of renovation, and then underwent a complete refurbishment.

The traditional construction with its thatched roof has been enhanced with modern elements, particularly the striking gables clad in Corten steel, which echo the autumnal colours of the surrounding thatch.
The house consists of two flats – both are the same size, but thanks to the asymmetrically arranged Corten steel gables at the front, they have slightly different floor plans and each has its own colour accent. Large patio doors and the glazed gables open the flats to the south.
The natural garden, inspired by coastal vegetation, continues seamlessly into the open landscape to the south. Here, nature can be experienced first-hand, the beach is close by – and Sankt Peter-Ording with all it has to offer is only a short distance away.

Owners of norderdiekhuus

Owner

The Große-Rüschkamp family from Hamburg, Elisabeth and Alois and their three adult children, Benjamin, Johanna and Sophie, are all equally enthusiastic about the North Sea and architecture, and together they developed the norderdiekhuus project. Everyone contributed their own ideas and visions, and even the details were discussed together. The result is a house that reflects their love for this special landscape and for minimalist design. The connection between the interior and exterior was particularly important to them – light-flooded rooms that merge into the vastness of the landscape.
