The Rock Cabin guest house is located on a park-like property with a view of the nearby Elbe Sandstone Mountains in Saxon Switzerland. It was built a few years ago on the walls of the former barn of a larger estate and nestles against the rock face of an old quarry. A path with steps made of natural stone slabs leads along the rocks to a large, glazed front — the entrance to the studio.
The flat consists of a 56 square metre room with a small kitchen island, dining area and sitting area with sofa, comfortable butterfly chairs and Danish wood-burning stove. The spaciousness of the room is emphasised by the continuous concrete floor, while the light wood walls, ceiling and fixtures provide a cosy feel. A ladder leads to the sleeping gallery above the bathroom — a cosy nest for two people with a Japanese futon that is open to the rest of the room. The large glass fronts — some fixed and some sliding — connect the room to the natural garden on three sides.
The view of the rocks of the old quarry, the green garden and forest landscape and on to the Falkenstein, an impressive freestanding rock in the Elbe Sandstone Mountains, makes you feel connected to nature, even when the windows are closed. The view, the quiet location and the beautifully simple interior contribute to the inspiring atmosphere of the studio. It is a wonderful place to relax, especially after an excursion into the surrounding area — there are countless possibilities, from hiking to climbing to city visits. Whether in the lounge chair in front of the house, inside in front of the fireplace or in the sauna in the main building, which can be used on request.
What to do
Sächsische Schweiz offers numerous opportunities for excursions into nature or culturally interesting cities such as Dresden or Prague. There are many hiking and cycling trails as well as routes for climbing in the surrounding area. Some castles nearby organise cultural events at any time of the year. The sauna with relaxation room in the neighbouring main building can be used on request.

Wir haben ein wunderschönes Osterwochenende in der Rock Cabin verbracht. Das Studio selber ist hervorragend und modern eingerichtet und lädt zur Entspannung ein. Die ruhige Lage und das schöne Elbsandsteingebirge ergänzen das Gesamterlebnis perfekt. Auch der Kontakt zu den Vermietern war bestens.
Meine Frau und ich haben vier unvergessliche Tage in diesem durch und durch inspirierenden Studio verbracht.
