Above a lake near the village of Traunkirchen, in the Austrian Salzkammergut region, you will find two cubes of wood and glass neatly nestled into the hillside. One of the houses is a 150 sq m holiday home for 4 to 8 people, the other house features two 80 sq m apartments for 2 to 5 people. Both houses offer fantastic views over the Traunsee lake and the Traunstein mountain – large panoramic windows inviting nature inside.
The interior design is elegant restrained: Nordic style furnishings with design classics such as the Egg Chair by Arne Jacobsen are combined with larch-wood floors, walls, ceilings, and even built-in furniture. That in itself is already quite homely, but a fireplace and a sauna ensure additional coziness.
The lofts offer direct access to the lake via a private jetty and are located just 50 m from a small bathing area open to the public – perfect for warm weather. Cross the road and you’re there. The historic centre of Traunkirchen is also a mere ten minute walk away, along the relatively quiet local access road that runs just below the lofts.
What to do
Water sports, plenty of hiking trails and exploring the Salzkammergut Mountains. Winter sport resorts, such as the Feuerkogel located just 10 minutes away, where you can go on fantastic snowshoe hikes.
Why we like this house
Beautiful architecture with panoramic views of the lake.
