“Live like you’re on holiday” – so went the 1930s advertising slogan of the Zurich “Werkbundsiedlung Neubühl”. Inspired by light, air and sun, you’ll find this model settlement of modern architecture (Neues Bauen) on a ridge between the Uetliberg and Lake Zurich. A guest apartment of the Swiss Werkbund is available to travelers and architecture enthusiasts alike.
Many features of the original studio, which is located in a gallery at the entrance to the settlement, have been retained, including the original ground plan as well as built-in wardrobes, sliding windows, the balcony railing, the kitchen light – and even the doorbell. The bathroom and kitchen, on the other hand, date to the building’s renovation in the 1980s. In 2015 the apartment was given a new linoleum floor and the walls were painted in the original colors. The apartment is furnished with modern Swiss classics, including the Ulm stool, Max Bill’s “Dreirundtisch”, beds by Alfred Roth, chairs by Werner Max Moser, and the “ess.tee.tisch”, an iconic Swiss table by Jürg Bally.
