The Wooden House

The Wooden House

In the midst of the spectacular Scottish landscape on the cliffs of the Isle of Skye: The Wooden House. Surrounded by the rich colours and contrasts of nature. Award-winning architects Alan Dickson and Gill Smith and their architectural firm Rural Design are known for their loving use of traditions and materials, which they interpret in their buildings in a modern and far-sighted way. The Wooden House  – which they not only designed but also built themselves – also follows this desire for timelessness and combines the regional architecture of the West Highlands with Scandinavian modernism. Where clarity meets depth and resilience meets elegance.

Sleek and understated from the outside, the interior opens up to a cosy living space that can accommodate up to seven people. The open-plan living, dining and kitchen area with its open supporting structure and wood-burning stove has a large window front with vistas of the dark blue sea, distant islands, summer sunsets and, with any luck, even dolphins, whales and seals. The four bedrooms, some with charming sloping ceilings and white wood panelling, also offer ever-changing views. The design of the  furnishings is fresh and simple with colourful accents. An inviting family holiday home that is minimalist yet offers everything you need. If you are looking for seclusion in the beauty of nature, you will definitely find it here.

What to do

Walking, mountain and cliff hiking, climbing, fishing, relaxing, whale watching, sunsets and aurora borealis, a visit to the cafes in Glendale village or a visit to two of Scotland’s best restaurants (The Three Chimneys and Loch Bay Restaurant).

Why we like this house

Nordic casual minimalism surrounded by endless pristine nature.

This house is great for

Families, friends
