A modern retreat set amongst the olive groves. The Villa Extramuros is an exclusive villa hotel in the Portuguese region of Alentejo. The modern building with a brilliant white facade was inspired by medieval monasteries: The rooms are grouped around a central courtyard. The ground floor houses the communal spaces, such as the dining room and living room with a fireplace. The first floor bedrooms are accessed via an open staircase from the patio. Traditional, vernacular materials such as marble and cork have been used for the construction and interior design of the villa. Set against concrete floors, the effect is modern yet cool and casual. The furnishings – selected by the villa’s French owners – are a mix of vintage and contemporary as well as handcrafted local pieces. The infinity pool the large park with cork oaks and olive trees make it the perfect holiday oasis.
Within two minutes walk of the main house, you will find two cubic cork houses, where you can enjoy complete privacy in natural surroundings. The 50 sqm sized bungalows each feature a bedroom and living area, a kitchenette, a bathroom with access to a patio, as well as a large terrace. Their decor is inspired by the design of the 1960s.
What to do
A park of 5 hectares, an infinite pool (15×6 m) and a small pool for children, the Atlantic ocean (50 minutes by car), excursions to Evora and Arraiolos. Many activities can be arranged upon request: e.g. massages, visits to wineries and farms, cross country bicycle rides, horse and carriage rides, boat trips and watersports.
