Those who sit in glass houses … can enjoy the beauty of nature from all sides. As they can in the holiday home Hof Ahmen on the Schlei, which is located in the middle of the sheep pasture of a heritage listed organic farm. Whether awakened by the sun, immersed in the play of clouds, engrossed in nature all around or in love with the grazing sheep – here, inside and out they enter into a constant dialogue that blurs the boundaries. Those who forget time and space have arrived.
The glass holiday garden house meets the challenge of integrating itself into the “genius loci” of the thatched-roof main house with its luminous copper beech and historic trees, while still finding an independent modern architectural language. A nimble-footed and successful balancing act. To the east of the courtyard, the free-standing roofs of the sheep shed were supplemented by another roof and its surface completely glazed. Opened up in this way, the translucent living area almost looks as if it were floating above the meadow. And it is reminiscent of modern classics such as Phillip Johnson’s “Glass House” and Mies van der Rohe’s “Farnsworth House”.
The spacious living area offers room for four guests and is divided into three areas by a wall element without losing its feeling of wholeness. Be it for a sunny breakfast in the dining area, for musing or playing in the evening sun in the living area or for culinary experiments at the free-standing kitchen block, in which the landscape is reflected – in the Hof Ahmen holiday home, a new favourite spot can be found at any time of day or year. The bathroom is cleverly hidden in the wall element and there are cosy bunks in two wooden cubes with large sliding doors. In addition, the deck in front expands the interior and allows you to experience nature with all your senses. The best way to do this is with tasting the hosts’ home-made organic sheep’s cheese and watching the laid-back Lacaune sheep.

Owner
Since 1982, Luise and Andreas Sunder-Plassmann have been running the Ahmen farm, which they converted to organic-biological farming. They now own around 60 sheep, from whose milk they produce organic sheep's cheese. The conversion of the holiday home was carried out by their son Malte Sunder-Plassmann and focuses on nature as well as the historical context.
