Urbanists tired of the city will find peace and relaxation in rural surroundings in the Old School Brandenburg in the northwest of Berlin. This former school dating back to 1920 on the outskirts of the small village of Sechzehneichen has been transformed into a holiday home with two apartments – on a small budget but a wealth of ideas. Raw walls give the bedrooms in the attic an individual character. Instead of installing new bathrooms, the wall tiles have been painted over and the floor tiles have been given a concrete look with putty. The old stoves have been preserved and supply the house with heat in winter. The furnishings are a lovely mix, inspired by the owner’s travels: vintage pieces from the house and family heirlooms meet design classics and modern furniture. A calm colour palette of white, grey and earthy tones brings visual tranquillity to the wild mix of styles.
The large apartment offers space for up to 6 people. It has a kitchen-living room, a living room, a bedroom and a bathroom on the ground floor. Under the roof there are two more bedrooms. The small apartment for 3 people is located on the ground floor in the former classroom of the school. It consists of a large room with a small kitchenette, a dining area, a sofa bed and a double bed.
A large wild garden belongs to the house. There are also a couple of chickens at home that provide the guests with eggs. Summer days can be spent in a deckchair or in a hammock under the fruit trees. There is a grill and a beamer for the evening open-air cinema.
