Chalet Concept – a small stone house dating back to the 16th century – is located in Rochebin in the western French Loire Valley. The oldest house in the small hamlet was awakened from its slumber a few years ago and extensively renovated in collaboration with a local architect. Behind the historic stone façade, a modern, well-equipped house now opens up, with a cubic, wood-clad extension with large windows at the rear. Due to the hillside location – the extension almost seems to float – there is a wide view of the surrounding landscape.
On the first floor of the old part of the building is the bright, open-plan living area with a fireplace and several sofas. The room opens onto the spacious kitchen with dining area in the new extension, which is connected to the stone house by integrating the old outer wall. On the second floor there is a bedroom (part of the old stone wall is also visible here) with a bathtub placed in the room as well as a sleeping gallery. This becomes a closed room thanks to fixed glazing between the wooden beams – with a view into the living area and further into the countryside.
The charming blend of tradition and modernity is also reflected in the interior design: modern furniture and individual design classics harmonize with antique individual pieces, while a few carpets and cushions provide small splashes of colour. The kitchen is well-equipped – the inspirations of French cuisine can be tried out right here.
The surrounding area offers a variety of activities: Nearby Nantes is always worth a visit, the castles along the Loire are all worth seeing and the beaches of the Atlantic are just an hour’s drive away. You can also go hiking, cycling or swimming in the immediate vicinity – or visit the beehives or pottery in the neighborhood.
So you certainly won’t be bored. And after all the activities, you will certainly look forward to the peace and quiet in the chalet and can relax at the end of the day – whether by the fireplace, on the terrace or in the garden.
What to do
The surrounding area offers a wide range of excursions - to the historic cities of Nantes or Rennes, to the castles along the Loire, to the wild beaches of the Atlantic coast or to the small island of Île d'Yeu.
