Bed & Breakfast Lo Scudaio in Toskana, Cecina, Montescudaio / IT – Italy

Bed & Breakfast Lo Scudaio

Palazzo Marchionneschi is located on the edge of the historic village centre of Montescudaio, a small medieval borgo overlooking the sea and the hills of the Etruscan valleys. Surrounded by vineyards, olive groves and maquis woods. Built in the 17th century as a scuderia, the former riding stable has undergone constant transformation over time.

The last significant intervention before the renovation took place in 1923, when the building was restored and extended, giving the ensemble the façade of a palazzo nobile to this day — even though the interior is a mixture of different eras, styles and functions.

Lo Scudaio is made up of two areas and accommodates ten double rooms for a total of 20 guests. The unpretentious yet modern and comfortable B&B scala antica is located in the oldest wing of the palazzo, which is entered via the large iron gate. A stone staircase leads to the five rooms, each of which has its own story to tell. Some with old roof beams, others under stable ceilings and round arches, always warm, cosy and of simple elegance. The scala grande guest house, once the stately home of the Marchionneschi family, is reached via a wrought-iron staircase that leads to the first floor. Five further rooms open up here, characterised by historic colours, Art Nouveau ornaments and magnificent ceiling paintings — some with a view of the sea. All rooms have been renovated with lavish flooring such as Venetian terrazzo, natural lime colours and furnished with fine linen and cotton fabrics in warm, earthy tones.

The spacious Palazzo also offers space for a wide range of activities, such as the bar in the large hall, which functions as a meeting point for visitors and locals, a venue for regional art and culture or as a workplace. The Laboratorio not only hosts regular Qi Gong and yoga sessions, but also provides ideal conditions for seminars and workshops. On cooler days, the fireside lounge invites you to get together, while on mild summer evenings the large veranda or the Mediterranean park are perfect places to relax.

Christine Besier, Joachim Klement sagt:
