On the edge of the village of Herzfelde, between wide fields and the forest-lined Dolgensee lake, lies a holiday home that takes up as little space as possible while offering maximum scope. Instead of scaled-down areas and dimensions, a clever concept was designed for the Minimalhaus Uckermark that makes optimal use of every centimetre. With 60 square metres for up to six people, two separate bedrooms, a central shower room and an open-plan kitchen-diner. Compact yet comfortable. Full of light, air and views of nature.
The clear, simple shape of the building follows the course of the sun. Well insulated and heated by sunlight and the fireplace. The large living room with kitchen island, dining area and sofa opens to the east, south and west, with the two elevated double bedrooms on the north wall. Here, too, there is a view of the countryside. Thanks to large sliding glass doors, the terrace becomes a second living room.
To remain flexible and adaptable, all interior spaces are reduced to the essentials. With lightweight furniture made of three-layer panels and multifunctional fixtures that can be enlarged or reduced in size, or folded out to create additional tables and work surfaces. Like a stage set that can be rearranged again and again as needed. Even the third double bed appears and disappears as if by magic. This is because the height difference between the living and sleeping areas provides all kinds of storage space.
All floors and fixtures are made of robinia wood. Its red tones go well with the clay-plastered walls, light grey paintwork and rough shell limestone in the bathroom. A harmonious concept that makes the wild garden and the terminal moraine landscape outside the windows shine even more intensely.
What to do
Hiking and cycling tours around Lake Dolgen, over rolling hills or through extensive forests, bathing and swimming in Lake Dolgen, which is only a short, idyllic walk away, fishing, boat trips, bird watching, excursions to surrounding villages, regional markets or Templin.
