Moosham 13

This farmstead in the Bavarian Forest has been family-owned for seven generations. Built around a four-sided courtyard, the ensemble dating back to 1840 includes a farmhouse, stable, outbuildings and a heritage listed bakery – all of which have been restored and adapted to the needs of the latest generation. Old elements of the buildings have been preserved where possible, while their rural style has been combined with sleek, modern architecture. The main farmhouse now houses two guest apartments in addition to the owners’ own apartment, their parents’ apartment, and the farmstead office. A stairwell between the farmhouse and stable interconnects these various levels, demonstrating that the old farm has very much arrived in the modern era.

The two 40 square metre guest apartments each consist of one room divided into different areas thanks to a centrally positioned timber compartment (which contains the bathroom). The style is refined and minimalistic, creating a modern ambience while emphasising the fabric of the original building. Both apartments have a kitchenette, the ground floor unit also has a fireplace. Equipped with sofa beds and separable double beds, they can meet a variety of needs: A short holiday with friends, a workation or a long family holiday. If you rent both apartments together, there is room for groups of up to nine people.

The Bavarian Forest National Park with animal parks and a canopy pathway, numerous hiking trails, cross-country trails, snowshoe hikes, mountain biking, canoeing, pearl and gold panning, museums such as the open air museum in Finsterau and trips to the Czech Republic.

Authentic, relaxed, open-minded: Verena Windorfer-Bogner and Reinhold Windorfer are two young hosts with a keen sense for modern architecture and design. After many years in the big city, they returned to the Bavarian Forest in 2015 and have since then embraced the combination of family tradition and contemporary, sustainable living -- without sacrificing comfort and design.
