Monochromatic spaces surrounded by greenery: the St. Oberholz Retreat in the heart of the Mecklenburg Lake District offers a surprising touch of big-city flair. Together with Danish architect and designer Sigurd Larsen, the listed Woldzegarten estate has been transformed into a retreat for workshops, offsites and creative breaks, combining urban aesthetics, analogue enjoyment and high-speed internet in a relaxed idyll.
Ansgar Oberholz and Koulla Louca know a thing or two about inviting spaces with team spirit, after all, the two opened Germany’s first co-working café in Berlin-Mitte in 2005 with St. Oberholz. The brick building in Leizen, built in 1735 and freshly renovated, now complements the big-city portfolio with a workation retreat in the countryside where work and relaxation go hand in hand.
From the outside, the buildings tell their story, while inside, open structures, consistent colour schemes, Scandinavian design and custom-made room platforms dominate, offering views of meadows, forests and the hotel’s own lake. Each room has been designed in monochrome – from pastel shades of pink, blue, green or yellow to rich colours. Spacious lounges, small salons and a fireplace room are available for concentrated work.
The relaxed working atmosphere is complemented by rooms or larger apartments in the old sheep barn, the Estelle Dining restaurant with high-quality regional cuisine, an indoor pool and a spa with sauna. Whether as a team or an individual guest, from Berlin or Hamburg, for new perspectives or grounding, creativity or activity – a place as multifaceted as its colours.
