A five and a half minute cable car journey takes you up to the vigilius mountain resort, an architecture hotel above Lana near Merano. This nature-connected haven of conscious well-being is, after 20 years, more in tune with the times than ever before.
The five-star hotel, situated at 1,500 metres, was planned, designed and currently being further developed by the renowned Milanese architect Matteo Thun. As simple, honest and uncompromising as the mountains of the South Tyrolean Vigiljoch themselves. “Eco, not ego” is the credo here.
Nature is the model. Not only stand larch trees all around the building, they are also a dominant material in the hotel. Whether in the outdoor area or in the interiors. Untreated and combined with large-scale panoramic glass façades, warm clay plaster and regional silver quartzite.
A sensual place full of appreciation for our resources. Designed and furnished in an elegant, timeless design with a clear, reduced formal language. From the all-wood rooms to the airy restaurant or the flame-red lounge with fireplace to the swimming pool, which seems to merge seamlessly with nature for forest bathing.
The building is constructed in accordance with the Klimahaus A sustainability standard. Wood chips are used to generate heat, a free-standing rammed earth wall distributes the heat of the radiant heating in the rooms, the thermal insulation windows are triple-glazed, the flat roof is green and in summer the fine wooden lamella structure provides additional protection against overheating.

Walking, hiking, mountaineering and mountain biking around and on the Vigiljoch, forest bathing, winter hiking, snowshoeing, tobogganing and skiing (provided there is enough natural snow), ice skating on the Schwarze Lacke, swimming, meditation, yoga, the Five Tibetans, reading and drifting, paragliding, golfing in Lana or an excursion to Merano and Bolzano.
