Mountain world and city life, tradition and modernity – a holiday at Iselhof in Lienz in East Tyrol has many facets. You live in the midst of greenery, but it only takes a few minutes to walk to the centre of the small town. The listed ensemble consisting of a 13th century manor house, a historical Stadl (the former farmhouse) and the contemporary Villa Notsch is situated on a huge plot of land directly adjacent to the glacial river Isel.
The Stadel was refurbished and converted into residential units. It gives now home to two holiday flats. The gateway to the courtyard, which used to separate the residential part from the stables, provides access to the flats. The room layout was changed, but with due consideration of existing windows and breakthroughs. The old natural stone walls were completed with fair-faced concrete. Natural materials determine the ambience of the flats: walls are plastered with lime, floors are covered with larch floorboards, bathrooms and kitchens are finished with regional stone.
Both flats combine history and modernity in an individual way. The 104-square-metre flat called Stube is located where the carriages used to be stored. It is characterised by a straight-line design and large windows with a seating area. Wood-panelled walls are combined with a fair-faced concrete ceiling, modern design with an old farmhouse table and an antique chest. The flat has an open-plan living room with fireplace, two bedrooms, two bathrooms, a study and a sauna. The 78-square-metre flat Kuchl is located in the former smoke room. The historical box windows and the vaulted ceiling in the bedroom give it a more traditional character, while the kitchen adjoining the living room and the bathroom and sauna provide a modern contrast.
Here, lodgings have been created that resemble a hideaway and a base camp at the same time. Retreats full of character for all those seeking inspiration and relaxation – small and sophisticated, easy-going and private. The cosy window seats, the saunas and the fireplaces make sure of that. Both flats have direct access to the garden with a meadow, old trees, a meadow with scattered fruit trees and a strip of wood along the property line.

What to do
Iselhof is located in an alpine region with more than 100 mountains over three thousand metres high, many mountain huts, alpine taverns, and hiking trails that are not overcrowded. The farm is situated directly on the Iseltrail, a long-distance hiking trail.
Summer: Walking, hiking, mountain tours (Grossglockner), climbing, cycling, mountain biking, swimming, rafting, bird watching.
Winter: Several skiing areas are in the vicinity; the Hochstein skiing area is only a few minutes' walk from Iselhof. Skiing, ski touring, snowshoeing, cross-country skiing, tobogganing, ice skating.
Guests can get to know the town and its surroundings with locals (cooking with a farmer's wife, herb walks, guided tours of the town, bike tours with a guide).
Why we like this house
We like the low-key simplicity of the flats, the interplay of old and new, and the location in the countryside and yet in the town. It is ideal for relaxing, but there are also many opportunities to get to know the country and its people.
This house is great for
Couples, families, holidays with friends. Great for for creative individualists, relaxation seekers and nature lovers.
