Palermo is a city of contrasts, where baroque splendor meets morbid charm and a lively atmosphere. In the capital of Sicily, Stefan Koppelkamm – graphic designer, photographer and author – has fulfilled his dream of having his own atelier in a baroque palazzo. During the time he is not using the studio, it can be rented.
Atelier Palermo is located in a narrow street in Palermo’s old town, in the immediate vicinity of old aristocratic palaces and prestigious museums. The 150-square-metre studio apartment on the third floor of the refurbished Palazzo San Gabriele provides rooms for working and living. The heart of the apartment is the 64-square-metre studio, which extends up to the roof ridge with an impressive ceiling height of seven meters. A stairway leads to an open gallery with a working area. The kitchen-living room with a ceiling height of five meters also conveys a generous ambience. There are two bedrooms with double beds (with an additional sleeping area on the gallery if required) and two bathrooms. The apartment is sunny all day long and has an – in the old town unusual – unobstructed view from the front windows.
What to do
IIn the neighbourhood there are numerous bars, cafés and restaurants; strolling around the colourful markets; exploring the old town with its churches and palazzi; visiting the museums, beach and exploring the island.

Uns gefiel unser Aufenthalt im Atelier sehr. Die Wohnung liegt in einem schönen Quartier in bester Lage und ist super eingerichtet. Eigentlich könnte man in der Wohnung Basketball spielen, sie ist so hoch und weit. Wir konnten hier gut arbeiten, auch hat es gute Tipps für ausgewählte Ausflüge. Sehr empfehlenswert!

Eine Freundin hatte mich auf die Website verwiesen; meine sizilianische Italienisch – Lehrerin Palermo mir schon immer empfohlen. Und ich wollte dem hiesigen Weihnachts- Stress und dem winterlichem Wetter nur entfleuchen. Ohne weit fliegen zu wollen.
Habe eine sehr friedliche Zeit voller Exotik genossen . Ohne nach Havana oder Istanbul zu reisen. Alles so vertraut und doch fremd .
Das Atelier liegt ideal in der historischen Altstadt, in der Nähe des Hafens . Während der täglichen Streifzüge durch die verschiedenen Viertel sind die Motive unerschöpflich. Die lokalen Märkte gleichzeitig auch für Selbst- Versorger ideal . Der dort angebotene Finger – Food eine zusätzliche Delikatesse .
Kurzum: Das Atelier war für mich ein schönes und angenehmes Refugium.
Im Übrigen war der Kontakt zu Herrn Koppelkamm, auch mit Ansprechpartnern vor Ort, sehr angenehm und hilfreich .

Palermo, eine an- und aufregende Stadt. Ein Viertel, mit netten Cafes, Bars, Alimentari mit Empfehlungen und freundlichem Gemüsehändler. Das Atelier ist perfekt, wohnlich und mit den Aussichten der vielen Balkone ein Fenster in den Alltag der Stadt. Nach einer Woche schon stellen sich heimatliche Gefühle ein und der Abschied fällt schwer. Wir würden gerne wiederkommen.
Zuhause ist das Buch von Stefan Koppelkamm „Palermo Lavori in corso“ zu empfehlen, fotografisch, typografisch eine Augenweide, das Lesen und Schauen eine Verlängerung und Erweiterung der Reise nach Palermo. Herzlichen Dank an den Gastgeber.

Wir haben Anfang Mai eine wunderbare Woche in Palermo verbracht. Das Atelier ist ein architektonisches Highlight. Ebenso ist die Einrichtung sehr ausgesucht und geschmackvoll. Dabei aber auch immer praktisch. Die tolle Küche verlangt nach ausgelassenen Gesellschaften und gutem Essen! Wir können die Wohnung nur empfehlen. Es hat an Nichts gefehlt und der Kontakt mit Herrn Koppelkamm war sehr unkompliziert und herzlich. Wir kommen gerne wieder!
