Set in a woodland clearing above Lake Überlingen – the narrow, north-western part of Lake Constance – lies Hof Spittelsberg: a listed complex that offers its visitors an inspiring atmosphere for shared occasions and challenges. Whether for pausing to reflect, working and creating, or coming together and bonding. From meetings and family gatherings to yoga retreats, a wide range of possibilities unfolds here amidst meadows, woods and views stretching across the whole of Lake Constance.
The former farmstead has belonged to the von Bodman family since the 15th century – a noble lineage and family business with over 800 years of history, which stands for a respectful and responsible approach to nature and traditions, as well as an openness to new ideas. These values are also reflected at Hof Spittelsberg: clean lines, a calm colour palette and modern art characterise the historic building, bringing the past into the present.
The renovation of the complex – comprising a farmhouse, a forester’s cottage and outbuildings – was guided by the principle of preserving what already existed, conserving resources and combining this with modern restraint. The striking half-timbered structure has been retained. It is a place where architecture is palpable, yet never overpowering. Flourishing farm gardens with heritage fruit tree varieties and extensively maintained meadows integrate the complex into the landscape.
Two venues are available for both small and large groups: the farmhouse, which offers accommodation for up to 12 people, features communal cooking and dining facilities, a 45-square-metre room in the attic, as well as a courtyard, barbecue area and garden for breaks or socialising in the open air. The forest lodge, with three apartments accommodating up to 16 people in total, also boasts charming communal areas, a large kitchen, a roof terrace and a spacious garden with views of Lake Constance. The studio house, a simple cottage for up to four people, is available as additional accommodation.
