Ferienhaus Spielleite Acht in Farchant / DE – Germany, Bavaria

Holiday home Spielleite Acht

The cul-de-sac in which Spielleite Acht is hidden is as tranquil as the village of Farchant in the Werdenfelser Land which is knwon for its healthy climate. The ensemble features the two holiday homes Klara and Hedwig as well as a shared sauna house. Embedded in the Upper Bavarian landscape and building culture with its wooden façades, overhanging balconies and colourful cottage gardens. Traditional elements that the newly constructed buildings also pick up on and translate into modern, timeless forms. In order to maximise the view of the Alpine chain, both houses were specifically planned ‘around the mountain view’.

With Spielleite Acht, the architectur firm arnhard und eck has designed a house as a solid construction but with a timber look on the outside and plastered with clay on the inside. 80 cm thick walls surround the interior, which repeatedly opens up to deep sitting windows and viewing points. Due to the minimalist interior and the natural colour concept — sometimes in light, sometimes in dark tones — the rooms remain beautifully understated. Only a few selected details, such as the red bathroom fittings, set occasional colour accents.

House Klara, which is slightly set back in the ensemble, can accommodate up to four guests and offers a view of the Alpine chain from the Dreitorspitze to the Zugspitze. You’ll find a prime spot in the seating window right next to the fireplace or in the light-coloured wooden kitchen with dining area and south-facing balcony on the first floor.
In the second house, Hedwig, all bedrooms are on the ground floor, so that you are accompanied by the mountain panorama of the Alp and Zugspitze as you ‘climb up’ to have breakfast. As Hedwig is suitable for larger families and groups of friends of up to six people, the balcony is also a little wider and extends the open-plan living, dining and cooking area thanks to the roof overhang.

In the spacious garden, guests will not only find the sauna house, but also a variety of special places among the old trees — from the cottage garden to a shaded terrace and a fire bowl. The Alps are always in view.

Owners of Spielleite Acht

Owner

Anne and Matthias Mutz are the warm hosts of Spielleite Acht. It is a heartfelt project for both of them, and a piece of home for Anne: about 100 years ago, her ancestors, the sisters Klara and Hedwig Rumbucher, acquired the small house at Spielleitenweg 8. "When we started the renovation in 2022, we soon had to realise that the old house could not be saved. But by saying goodbye to what was there, we created space for something new - and thus a place to unwind, feel at home and simply be."

Bzgl.

Maren sagt:

In every detail, you sense the creators’ desire: it has to be perfect. And so, Klara House has been a truly welcoming temporary home for us. When you build with heart and soul, it’s palpable in everything you see and touch. The beautiful surroundings are enriched by a wonderful house.

Carl sagt:

We had a very pleasant stay at the Klara flat. The contemporary construction respects the tradition of this purely Bavarian locality, with its church boasting a bulbous bell tower, farmhouses, and a charming square with a fountain. Great care has been taken in the choice of furniture and fittings, and the facilities are very good. The coffee machine deserves a special mention — it’s so beautiful that you don’t dare use it! There is also a lovely sauna in the garden.
Our hosts Anna and Matthias provided a very warm and attentive welcome.
In short, it’s an excellent base for exploring this beautiful region, which is rich in monuments (notably Linderhof Castle and Wies Church), lakes (including the famous Eibsee and the chic Tegernsee) and stunning landscapes.
