Villa Due Pini

Holiday home Villa Due Pini

Surrounded by an olive grove and overlooking the Tyrrhenian Sea as well as the Aurunci mountains Villa Due Pini is situated on a hill above the small town of Itri. The house is also known as “White Pumpkin” and as unusual as its name is its story of origin: The villa is based on the redesign of an unfinished reinforced concrete skeleton. The initial structure determines the roof pitch and defines the visible concrete framework of the living room. The austere appearance of the architecture is broken up by two terraces that open the house to the outside and by the facade of white ceramic mosaic. The entrance and the base in orange create colourful accents. Villa Due Pini was designed by Cherubino Gambardella who is considered one of the most influential contemporary architects in Italy. He was the model for the main character in the award-winning film ”La grande bellezza” directed by Paolo Sorrentino.

Part of the Architecture Biennale 2014, Villa Due Pini is akin to a piece of art. With a living area of about 230 sqm, the villa has two spacious bedrooms with balcony and terrace respectively, two children’s rooms and two bathrooms. Downstairs the generous living space leads from the lounge directly onto the kitchen-dining area. Clay-coloured concrete floors, white walls with contemporary art, and a few splashes of colour like orange surfaces define the ambience. The large terrace leads to the infinity pool and from there to the olive garden, whose terraces are upheld by ancient dry stone walls. Citrus trees grow in the courtyard at the back of the house.

We had an amazing time at Due Pini. The view is just wonderful – waking up with a colorful sunrise and having an aperitivo at sunset – la dolce vita. The architecture is stunning and we spotted new details of the smart design almost every day – even during a hot day, the house is still well temperated the whole time. The kitchen is well equipped and you can find everything from a blender to tupperware.
Once you actually make it out of the house there is a lot to see and do closeby. Itri is a cute little Italian town, perfect for not only grocery shopping and eating out but also for having a walk through the small old town and visiting the castle. The sea is only a 15 minute drive away and we can really recommend renting a boat.

We spent a wonderful and relaxing week at Villa Due Pini. Not only is the architecture beautiful and unique, it was also perfect for our family needs – comfortable beds, extremely well equipped kitchen, lovely pool and outdoor area.

It was difficult to drag ourselves away from the house, but there is lots to do in the area and an abundance of beautiful beaches; all a must to explore.

The view from the house across the valley to the sea is stunning. Soaking that in from the terrace in the evenings was a nourishing way to end each day. Thank you Villa Due Pini. We hope to come back soon!

We spent two weeks with our family at Villa Due Pini. Overall, it is a very great, relaxing and impressive place. The villa has an amazing architecture and shows much attention to detail. It offers many great features and a magnificent view over the mountains and sea. In particular, we enjoyed the view from the bedroom in the early morning. If you ever will be there you will know what we mean. :-)

Itri is a beautiful small town in the mountains with many nice restaurants, bars and other places. Sperlonga, Gaeta and other exciting places are in the direct neighborhood of Itri.

Anne-Celine is a great and very polite host and Francesco a very supportive and friendly local guy.

To summarize, we spent a great and enjoyable time and for sure will come back.

Stefanie sagt:

Francesco was whenever needed very helpful and supportive. Thanks for being able to stay in this beautiful site.
