Villa Zagara

Villa Zagara

Villa Zagara near the Sicilian town of Noto is surrounded by a garden of lemon trees. The house and garden are the joint project of three brothers – two are architects in Naples and one is a landscape architect. The project was inspired by local rural traditions. In the garden you will find terraces and stone walls typical of the region, and the simple, functional design of the house is reminiscent of the architecture of agricultural barns. The l-shaped floor plan divides the house into a living area and two-storey sleeping area (both bedrooms have a bathroom en suite). These two sections are connected by the entrance hall, in which a concrete staircase with “floating” steps and a fountain with fittings hanging from the ceiling are visually striking design features. Large windows and a concrete floor, used in the house as well as in the garden, create a smooth transition between interior and exterior spaces. In addition to the terraces arranged around the house, there is a roof garden with views over the hills and the Vendicari nature reserve, all the way to the sea.

What to do

Hiking, culture, nature, peace, beach, sea, wine tasting, and a pool.
Noto city is about 6 km away and the nearest beach in the Vendicari nature reserve can be reached in 10 minutes. The baroque cities of Noto, Scicli, Modica and Ragusa Ibla, Siracusa as well as the natural sites of the Vendicari, Cava Grande, Pantalica gorge and the Monti Iblei limestone mountain range are all within a radius of 45 km.

Why we like this house

A house with a casual living atmosphere and an exceptional garden design.
