Einmal quer durch Dänemark (Teil 2/2) in /

PhotoStory 2/2

Denmark from Coast to Coast

The idea for URLAUBSARCHITEKTUR was born in 2007 during construction work on a small island in the Danish Baltic Sea. A road trip back to the roots — part 2 of the sneek peaks of our partner meeting 2024.

Dance of the elements

At the north-western tip of Denmark, the sky is endless and the light has a beguiling power. Nature reveals its beauty in ever-changing scenarios — from windswept dunes along rugged coastlines and wide sandy beaches to gently rolling, grassy hills and heathland. Weathered fishing boats adorn the long, deserted beaches early in the morning, contemplating the rhythm of the waves that roll onto the shore with smooth fronts and steep crests.

Light House / Agger

With fjords, lakes and dunes in continuous dialogue, the Light House interacts with its natural surroundings and makes light, air, openness and a sleek design the main protagonists in an intriguing play of geometric elements. Architecture: Søren Sarup, Puras Architecture

The Triangle / Klitmøller

The Triangle is a masterful contradiction. Ducked into the wild pine landscape, the house forms an obtuse-angled triangle in the soft sand. Fully glazed to the front and rear, the house blends into the landscape. Inside, raw concrete plays with joyful colours and Terrazzo with glassy lightness. Architecture: Søren Sarup, Puras Architecture.

Birkedal / Møn

The island of Møn is considered one of the most beautiful corners of Denmark and offers an impressive natural spectacle with its white chalk cliffs. Just 350 metres from the Råbylille beach, in the middle of a birch grove, are two unique houses by Jan Henrik Jansen: birkedal and black&bright. The architect from Copenhagen studied together with URLAUBSARCHITEKTUR founder Jan Hamer. Jansen’s first work on Møn — langelinie (now privately owned) — was the kick-off project for UA in 2007, as the idea for the network was born right here on the building site. birkedal is a built fantasy. The architect conceived, planned and built it himself over a period of 5 years. Every centimetre is based on his thoughts and concepts, and he worked on every element himself. The house is complex, unconventional and a spectacular feat of craftsmanship and atmosphere!

black + bright / Møn

A few hundred metres from the sea, the elongated house rests in the midst of wild meadows and pastures and, above all, in itself. black + bright juggles gently with contrasts that appeal to all the senses. A luminous place with clear perspectives, purist forms and the calm presence of a Zen master. The devil is in the detail.

Here you can find the first part of our road trip.

The landscape surrounding the Danish fishing village of Agger is characterized by water, beaches, dunes and heathlands. The Light House is situated only 650 meters from the North Sea coast, opposite a small lake.

The holiday home in the Thy National Park on the Danish North Sea coast hides in nature due to its green roofs extending deep down. As the glazed front and back facades allow views right through the house, it seems to merge with its surroundings.

The architecture of house Birkedal is as poetic as its name. Inspired by children’s fantasy worlds, the cottage on the Danish island of Møn consists exclusively of circular spaces.
