On the trail of Edgar Reitz
Never underestimate the province! If you travel to the small town of Simmern in the Hundsrück region, you will find a wide range of cinematic offerings: the Heimat Europa Film Festival, held annually in August, an art house cinema and, since 2022, the Edgar Reitz Film House. Numerous shots from the film epic “Heimat”[A Chronicle of Germany] are also dedicated to the city’s honorary citizen in the Soon appartements, holiday accommodation in Simmern.
La grande bellezza
Cherubino Gambardella is not only an architect and architectural theorist but he also was used by director Paolo Sorrentino as a model for the protagonist of his award-winning film “La grande bellezza”. In the network of holiday architecture, he is responsible for three conversions: Casa Capriccio Alto , Villa Due Pini and Villa Capri (pictured).
James Bond sends his regards
Around the Miramonti Boutique Hotel, (cover picture, photo: Markus Edgar Ruf) some film scenes of “The Spy Who Loved Me (1977)” were shot. The owners have therefore made it a good habit to show a James Bond classic on the big screen every Sunday evening in the Tea Room. And what’s more, you can munch on genuine home-made popcorn during the film.
Living in the studio
In the Uckermark region, architect Helga Blocksdorf has converted a former stable into a photo studio for a fashion stylist and a photographer. When the Studio Uckermark is not needed for shootings and filming, it is a wonderful place to spend your holidays
Like in a detective story
Fans of Commissario Montalbano will love the surroundings of our Sicilian partner house Le Tamerici. The beach directly adjacent to the house as well as the striking Saracen Tower are certainly very familiar to those from the Sicilian thrillers by Andrea Camilleri.
Art and culture, nature and film
