Located in the Baltic Sea resort of Prerow, this holiday home is a modern interpretation of the typical reed-thatched house. As the reeds not only cover the roof but also gables and side walls, the house has a monolithic character. To the north, a single-storey building with a façade of rusty steel faces the street and forms an interesting contrast to the main building. To the south, the house opens out with large window fronts to a meadow that stretches out to the Darßwald forest.
Clarity, lightness and breadth characterise the atmosphere of the interior space. The simple and sleek interior design features an understated colour palette, drawing on the rustic tones of the surrounding landscape. The central living area with seating by the fireplace, a kitchen and a dining area is bright and airy – large glazed frontages on three sides and a skylight flood the space with light even on the dullest days. To the left and the right of the all-in-one living space are a bedroom and a sauna, both with large panoramic windows. A filigree staircase with elegantly curving banisters leads to the upper floor where there are two further bedrooms (each with an en suite bathroom). Sleek white furniture and tailor-made fixtures and fittings give the bedrooms with their sloping ceilings a spacious feel. The house has two terraces facing the east and west sides and a large garden with an outdoor fireplace.
