Hotel MIRAMONTI Bou­tique Hotel

Situated on a sunny high plateau above Merano/Meran, the Mira­monti Bou­tique Hotel has been a stylish place for nature and design lovers for many years. Ori­gi­nally opened in 1932 as a small inn with just three rooms, Carmen and Klaus Alber have reno­vated and extended the hotel in several stages since 2012: A modern extension (The Owners’ House) was added to the main house and the old façade was har­mo­nised with the simple ele­gance of the new part of the building. The Sky House, a cube built into the rock with an extra­or­dinary guest room, was added later. In autumn 2024, the ensemble was finally com­pleted with the Monti House — three inter­con­nected, indi­vi­dually designed wooden houses created by South Tyrolean designer Harry Thaler.

The designer was inspired by the ori­ginal history of the Mira­monti when designing the Monti House, which is located around three hundred metres from the hotel, right on the edge of the forest. The three spruce-clad cubes echo the tra­di­tional con­s­truction methods of South Tyrol and combine them with modern ele­ments and clean lines. There is also a lot of wood in the inte­riors; the locally quarried vol­canic stone por­phyry gives the bath­rooms and kit­chens a reddish colour. The spe­cially designed, simple fur­niture, lighting and fix­tures emphasise the effect of the large window fronts, which showcase the interplay of light and nature.

The rest of the Mira­monti’s 47 rooms are designed in six dif­ferent styles using natural mate­rials: some­times with mid­night blue walls, some­times with wood panelling or cement clay plaster. Every detail has been carefully thought through, the interior is mini­malist, simple and high-quality. Large-format, frameless pan­o­ramic windows connect the inte­riors with the sur­rounding meadows and forests. The spec­ta­cular view of the peaks of the Merano Texel Group and the Adige Valley also accom­panies guests as they swim in the salt­water infinity pool, in the forest sauna or in the rela­xation centre.

The restaurant on the ground floor also creates an almost Nordic-Japanese flair with its sim­plicity and use of natural mate­rials — and also offers authentic culinary delights: from slow food in the pan­orama restaurant to tra­di­tional South Tyrolean cuisine in the his­toric parlour.

What to do

In summer, there are countless hiking trails, whether in the forest, on the mountain or in the gardens of Trauttmannsdorff Castle. In autumn, South Tyrol attracts visitors with the grape harvest and the regional custom of ‘Törggelen’. And in winter, you can go skiing, winter hiking, tobogganing or ski touring in the nearby Merano 2000 ski area.
